2010 Season             Edition No. 18           June 1, 2010

Wow, what a week we had!  We saw the 20th Perfecto thrown by Roy Halladay (51 badly needed points for the Bombers, thank you very much),   Kendry Morales  go down with a broken leg after celebrating a walk-off grandslam ( Sorry Bears!),   Indian's pitcher David Huff takes a line drive off his head from A-Rod and lives to tell about (He's ready to make his next start ),  the Atlanta Braves take over first place in the NL East Division, and Mouse sets a PR in the One Mile Boy's Town Memorial Day Run of 13:08 ( More explaining to follow)!

The week generated some movement in the ranks, but the Wahoo's continue to treat the rest of the League like Custer at Little Big Horn, just toying with us as he gradually pulls away.  See the weekly and yearly totals:

There has been some chatter about the importance of good drafting versus good managing so I thought it would be interesting to see  if the current standings reflected a trend or verified either position.  Below  are the point totals for the top three draft picks of each team:

It must be noted that these point totals are as of Monday, May 24th and do not include this week's action.  But what does it tell us?  The Cubs drafted number one and drafted well as they currently reside in third place.   The Wahoo's  drafting in the number three hole, also drafted well and currently sit in first place.   From there on down, I'm not sure it tells us much, other than a 164 point difference between the highest point total and the lowest point total, which equates to a four position advantage in the standings.  But it's all open to discussion, drafting versus managing.

In looking at draft positions, I found it interesting to see  who was overachieving and who was underachieving so I complied my top five for each category :

Ubaldo!  What can you say about him other than unbelievable and who saw that coming?   And then he lowers his  era to .78  on Monday by shutting out Lincecum and the Giants.  Should we just give him the Cy Young now?  Conversely, Josh Beckett has not fared so well, and his stint on the DL hasn't helped his numbers, but it does show the extremes in drafting only one round apart.  Is it the luck factor?

Mouse's Minute:  Further clarification on my running PR,  I was running with my 10 year old Daughter and she wanted to hold hands as we crossed the finish line.  So as we all know, when those  "special moments" present themselves, we must take advantage of them.  I must also add it was the first mile I have ran this decade, so I'm not too sure I would have done much better without her!   Turning to baseball, even though I languish in 8th or 9th place, cost myself points by over managing and second guessing,  and think about if only I had drafted so and so instead of the bum I got, what a blast I am having.  I am looking forward to the trip to Target Field in August  and may the best team win!
