2010 Season

   Edition No. 24

July 20, 2010

Life is sometimes not fair, so get used to it.  I tell this to my kids on a regular basis to explain many of the injustices that they must endure, including their parents harsh rules.  It turns out that I am not alone in believing this to be one of the golden rules of life.

Bill Gates in relating how politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world stated the following as his # 1 rule.:.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

I have to remind myself of this every morning when I look at the production of the 2010 Redbirds and the relative performance of the Wahoos.  There is simply no other explanation for having a championship team featuring Kelly Johnson, Nick Swisher, Josh Willingham, Jaime Garcia, Carl Pavano and Corey Hart. If that doesn’t prove the point nothing does.

How do you think the Cardinals GM feels about the 2010 performances of Scott Rolen and Troy Glaus, scheduled opening day 3 B starters for the Cards who collectively played in 59 games last year, either of whom are likely to suffer disabling injuries taking fielding practice. They have collectively played in 169 games this year, go figure?

I am the proud owner of an authentic Stephen Strassburg jersey purchased on our recent family vacation to our nation’s capital. Strassburg was good, very good and the place was electric, at least as electric as the Nats park can get. I thought the stadium was mediocre at best. The concessions and service at Nats stadium was poor, the worst stadium brat I have ever had. Nyjer Morgan tossed a ball in the stands which ended up in my hands which my 10 year old Dan was pretty cool. I like Nyjer.

So the Cardinals swept the Dodgers in a 4 game series, not all that remarkable, however did you know that the 4 game sweep evens the all-time Dodger/Cardinals series.

Back to the DC trip. We spent 6 days touring the town with the kids and re-lived a lot of our nations history. I highly recommend Mt. Vernon, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Museum of American history among the other well known attractions. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown at the Arlington National Cemetery should be mandatory to American citizens. The Holocaust Museum is unnerving.

How about the black eye served on the NBA by Lebron and ESPN. The whole operation is an embarrassment from the commissioner on down. Vince McMahon should be running the whole operation.

Looking forward to Target Field in a month, looks like a fun place. I assume Big Johnny has some fun side trips lined up for us, if not get to work it is essential to cram as many activities into 48 hours as possible, it is vacation after all. Jaegerbombs for all!
