Highlights:  The hometown Royals, competing in their last game of the season, took it to Twins starter Joe Niekro early and often, knocking him out of the game with only one out in the second inning with a walk to Tartabull, a single by Frank White, a double by Jim Eisenreich, another walk, a sac fly by Jamie Quirk, another single, a wild pitch, and another walk.  For his trouble, Niekro suffered his next-to-last loss of his long and largely successful career, before retiring the following season after pitching only 11 2/3 innings.  Puckett had two hits in the game to end the season with 207 hits, while Kevin Seitzer also notched two hits to likewise end the year with a total of 207 hits.  For the second straight year, we saw Royal pitcher Mark Gubicza throw a complete game victory for the Royals, giving up eight hits over nine innings, one earned run, and striking out four while walking none, to improve to 13-18 on the year.  Umpires Durwood Merrill and Rich Garcia led the crew of arbiters.
