Highlights: The boys from the Hot Stove League relished their first trip to brand-new Target Field, reveling in the sunshine on a glorious Saturday afternoon and taking in the sights and sounds of this new baseball venue. The day began with promise for the hometown heroes, as the Twins pushed across three runs in the 1st with walks to Denard Span, Joe Mauer and then a timely single by Michael Cuddyer to drive in 2 runs; followed by a walk to Thome and a single by Young to score Cuddyer. However, the visitors from Anaheim retaliated in the top of the 2nd with singles by Matsui and Aybar, home runs by Bourjos and Abreu, and 2 more singles, plating 4 runs and capturing the lead for good on the way to a 9-3 Twin killing. Journeyman professional hitter and future Hall-of-Famer Jim Thome reached base on all four plate appearances for the Twins, on a single and 3 walks.
That evening, the Hot Stove League boys were treated to a freak show in the guise of an Independent League baseball game at the home of the St. Paul Saints, which was reported on in rich detail by Our Man Johnny in his annual trip recap.
